Syntiron, a biotechnology company, is developing vaccines and therapeutics for the prevention and treatment of a wide range of bacterial diseases, including nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections, food and waterborne infections (including traveler's diarrhea), bacterial warfare agents, urinary tract infections, and wound infections. Staphylococcus aureus (including methicillin-resistant S. aureus, or MRSA), Salmonella spp., and Yersinia pestis, comprise Syntiron's major vaccine programs, all of which are supported by grants awarded to Syntiron by the National Institutes of Health. In addition, Syntiron has a $3.8M pending contract with the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency to adapt its licensed, patented vaccine technology to prevent three priority bioterrorism agents: Bacillus anthracis (anthrax), Yersinia pestis (plague), and Burkholderia pseudomallei (melioidosis). |
